WHY ARTISTS ARE LEARNING TO CODE
Like acrylics, words, and musical notes—coding is a medium for visual artists. It infuses new life into classic creative pursuits like photography, design, and motion graphics.
This class will introduce you to generative art and Processing by using code to remix and "glitch" existing imagery.
This workshop is geared toward visual artists—photographers, painters, video artists, graphic designers who are seeking new tools for image manipulation. Altering existing images with code jumpstarts those new to Processing into creating aesthetically pleasing results within a couple of hours! You will still grasp the fundamentals of Processing, but the focus of the workshop will be on getting you creating gorgeous generative art.
You will create generative movie loops, digital stills, fabric patterns, or archival prints from your work.
WHO THIS CLASS IS PERFECT FOR
This class is for painters, illustrators, photographers, graphic designers, fabric designers, collage artists—anyone who wants to explore image making with code
No prior knowledge of programming is necessary, but it is assumed that you have basic computer skills. This course involves programming using the Processing environment, so you will need access to a laptop that you can download and install software on.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Key concepts you will learn in this class include:
Introduction to the fundamentals of the Processing language — variables, loops, primitive shapes, etc.
Use creative coding to manipulating existing images
Modify existing Processing code sketches to create new visual effects
Learn about a variety of outputs for you images — prints, fabrics, video loops, and beyond
Artists Working in this Medium
